BIKE THROUGH COASTAL REDWOODS

Ride through the temperate rainforest in solitude on the original Redwood Highway, a road from the 1930s that closed to car traffic long ago. These days, only hikers and bikers get to enjoy the unparalleled views and fresh air as they wind through the redwoods and cruise along the dramatic cliffs above the Pacific.

Take in soaring ocean views as you ride more than 800 feet above the sea, and enjoy sweeping hills amidst the magical ancient trees. Biking on the Old Redwood Highway, also known as the Last Chance section of the California Coastal Trail, is probably the best opportunity to bike through the old-growth redwood forest in solitude.

This trip can be done as a moderately easy with some elevation out-and-back ride, at any length between three and eight miles. For more of a challenge, conquer the entire eight miles of the Old Redwood Highway, with a smooth 300-foot drop, a 100-yard climb by foot and then an exhilarating 1,000+-foot descent back to Enderts Beach — one of the most secluded beaches in America.
