middle fork smith

one for the bucket list...

The Middle Fork Smith River has some of the best beginner, intermediate and advanced whitewater on the Smith River system and some of the most scenic stretches of paddling in California. The class IV Middle Fork Gorge is a beautiful sight to behold from pullouts on Highway 199 between Hiouchi and Gasquet. While the powerful rapids of Middle Fork Gorge are the climax of this stream, there are many less intense stretches above the gorge that offer incredible class II/III paddling.

Two distinct half-day floats - The Gasquet Glide and Cooper Canyon - can be combined for an unforgettable full-day tour.

The Middle Fork Smith is perfect for those looking to paddle through some great rapids but still have plenty of chances to relax and soak in the scenery.

The Gasquet Glide

This half-day trip starts at the breathtaking deep-water confluence of the North Fork Smith River and Middle Fork Smith River, a popular spot for summertime swimming.  Away from the coastal fog, the weather in Gasquet during the summer is sunny and warm making this Class II- run perfect for beginners that want to experience a little whitewater in the sun.
Locals float this stretch with inner tubes every year during the Gasquet Raft Race on the second Saturday of July.

What Our GUESTs Are Saying

"These guys were awesome! We originally booked a kayak trip, and had so much fun with them we rented mountain bikes from them the next day. They were very accommodating with our time schedule; and they were very safe and organized. The river was just gorgeous and the forest was breathtaking. We will be booking with them again on our next trip to Crescent City!"
